End of Summer 2019

Well, I hate to admit it, but it seems as if summer has all but forgotten us. We may get more good weather, and I sincerely hope we do, but I’m skeptical. I guess Fall is here whether we are ready or not.

Just a few thoughts as we come to the end of the season. First of all , I had a great summer and I really hope you did too! I got to see so many wonderful friends, do a little traveling, and have some down time, which we all need!

Our travels in late June took us to San Francisco and South of there. We flew to SF and then rented a car and drove to Monterey, Big Sur, San Simeon, Hearst Castle, and San Luis Obispo. The California coastline is stunning! All of it was amazing, wonderful, and beautiful!!! One of the perks of working at a school, you have the summers off to do something like that! I’m still getting used to that. This was my 3rd summer off. Prior to that, it was 20 years of no summer off!

We had one of our daughters come home in early August and stay for almost two weeks. Yeah, that was really good. 🙂 There is nothing like one of your adult children coming home for a visit. You get to really spend some quality time with them. It is the best! I miss all my kids so much and wish each of them could come home for a long visit!

Growing flowers and cooking yummy food was another joy of summer. I had enough flowers to give away, bring into my home for bouquets, and enough left over to leave in the garden. The flowers outdid themselves in the garden and on my deck. I will be sooooo sorry to see them go!!

Cooking was delightful. I had time to spend an entire day making things I wanted to try. Sometimes you just don’t have the energy after work and don’t want to waste a weekend day to do the time consuming testing of new recipes. But, summer was the perfect time to do just that. All I needed was willing participants to help me eat up all of the things I decided to make. 🙂

There was plenty of what I lovingly call “deck time”. Anyone who knows me, knows it is something I cherish. Being out on the deck in the morning, still in jammies and with coffee in hand. In the evening with a cocktail, and sometimes at night to enjoy the candlelight and the stars. Sometimes with throw blankets if its too cold either morning or night. And in the daytime, its always with my new (amazing) binoculars to watch birds that show up at the feeders. We also have a couple trees that produce berries and that attracts several really cool birds. It sounds silly to some, but there is something about watching them that is so enjoyable. There was a time I would have considered it an “old” persons hobby. Well, I guess I am old, and you know what, I don’t mind that. So be it.

Echo Dot also played a roll in our summer “deck time”. We listened to a lot of music. Some brought back such wonderful memories as my husband and I reminisced of days and times gone by. We might have even danced just a bit, on the deck, by ourselves. That is a sweet memory, etched in my mind, for always.❤❤❤

I hope you are all doing well. All the Fall things are just around the corner and I guess its time to embrace all that. It  may be time for soup, hot chocolate, the fireplace, rain, blankets and pumpkin lattes!  I would love to hear from any of you with a little thought about your summer. Hoping it was lovely and enjoyable. Until next time……..
